Communications & Knowledge Management
Establishing the AsRSG as the authoritative voice on Asian rhino conservation, and capturing and disseminating the knowledge its members generate.
Mandate
To ensure that the AsRSG is recognised as the world’s authoritative voice on Asian rhino conservation, and that knowledge generated by AsRSG members and partners is effectively captured, synthesised and disseminated to inform policy, mobilise support and inspire action.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the AsRSG’s communications strategy across digital, scientific and media channels.
- Manage the AsRSG website, social media presence and email communications.
- Coordinate and publish the AsRSG newsletter and periodic status reports.
- Develop and maintain an AsRSG knowledge repository, including field reports, scientific publications and grey literature.
- Coordinate with the IUCN SSC communications team on messaging and publications.
- Support species sub-committees in producing accessible summaries of scientific and technical findings for non-specialist audiences.
- Oversee production of the AsRSG Annual Report and other statutory publications required by the IUCN SSC.
- Manage media relationships and serve as first point of contact for press enquiries.
Areas for development
The Terms of Reference flag the following as needing further attention:
- A clear strategy to celebrate World Rhino Day.
- Integrating cultural elements with rhino conservation.
- Recognising practices such as zoos in Japan observing the 31st rhino day of each month.
- Revitalising all social media platforms.
Relationship to leadership
The sub-committee reports to the AsRSG Leadership Team. It provides communications services to all other sub-committees and the Leadership Team, and has a particularly close working relationship with the Partners of AsRSG sub-committee.
