Dr Jo Shaw

Dr. Jo Shaw is CEO of Save the Rhino International, where she leads global efforts to secure the future of all five rhino species. A conservation scientist with more than 25 years of field and leadership experience, her work is rooted in ecological monitoring, population management, and habitat assessment for rhino range expansion and reintroductions. To this she has added applied expertise in addressing rhino horn trafficking, conservation law enforcement including ranger capacity building, behaviour change, and community-based natural resource management — bringing a career-long commitment to integrating science, people, and policy for lasting rhino recovery. An experienced spokesperson across broadcast, print, and digital media, she has participated in national and international policy development including CITES COP17–20. Jo is a member of the IUCN SSC African and Asian Rhino Specialist Groups and has co-authored multiple publications in support of rhino conservation, including the IUCN African Rhino Conservation Framework 2025–2035.
