Ardi Andono is Head of Ujung Kulon National Park, the last remaining habitat of the Javan rhino. He has more than two decades of experience in protected-area management, biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection, with senior roles in national parks and natural resources conservation agencies across Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan. His field work includes the capture, rescue and conservation of threatened large mammals, among them the Javan rhino, Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tiger, Javan leopard and both Sumatran and Bornean orangutans. His interests include Javan rhino population monitoring, habitat management, anti-poaching and law enforcement, translocation and second-habitat development. He holds an MSc in Forest and Nature Conservation from Wageningen University, and his work has been recognised by UNEP.
