Retired civil servant; hony. CE of The Rhino Foundation in NE India. Authored 31 books, 55 technical reports and 995 articles and scientific papers. Has more than 4 decades of field experience. Member, State Board for Wildlife, Assam. PhD on primates and DSC on a systematic review of mammals of NE India. He also served the Forest dept. of Assam as Deputy and Joint Secretary and finally retired as Divisional Commissioner and Commissioner & Secretary. He described three species and one subspecies of mammals new to sciemce. Has been involved in declaration of several protected areas.
