Dr Andrew Laurie is a biologist who has worked in Asia, South America and Africa on a wide range of research and conservation projects. Between 1972 and 1976 he carried out a long-term field study of Greater One-horned Rhinos, with short trips (1975 and 1976) for comparative observations on Sumatran and Javan Rhinos. He made a short return visit to Assam in 2018, looking in particular at the artificial island initiative, and between 1991 and 1992 he spent a year in Tanzania doing Black Rhino surveys in the Selous Game Reserve. Andrew’s direct experience with rhinos, although rather dated, was very formative: and rhino conservation, particularly of R. unicornis is very important to him.
